2010 Athlete Development Camps
How to Qualify:
Contact us. Collegiate athletes are encouraged to attend also, and do not need to meet any qualification criteria other than being a USAC member with the physical ability to race. * Camp registration deadline is two weeks before start of camp. Don't delay!
The camp is open to any rider ages 14 and up who is physically able to ride epic trails and compete under race situations. The is not a camp for those who might be interested in beginning the sport. A little previous race experience is good, and the ability to complete mountainous rides on consecutive days with the groups is needed. This is not to scare anyone off, do know that we have many beginner level athletes that do just fine at the camp. USAC suggest having ten races prior under the belt.
All athletes that meet the following criteria will be automatically eligible and will not have to submit a request for eligibility.
- 14-22 y/o Cat 1 and 2 mountain bike XC license holders.
- Top 5 in ADJMTB race (15/16 and 17/18 Cat 2 and Cat 1 after June 2009.
- Attended athlete development camp in 2009,
that athlete is automatically qualified to attend any MTB regional development camp in 2010 and should have already received an invite via email (by Spring '10). If you feel you should have an invite and did not get one then contact us.
USA Cycling has an automatic qualification system for regional camps based on USA Cycling race results and rankings.
OR qualification is to contact the camp manager and discuss.
Athletes should arrive at camp with a level of fitness that allow them to ride and train several days in a row. Training in preparation for the camp will improve the athletes experience. We suggest an increase in riding during the weeks before the event and up to a week out. Rides of 2-3 hours that are "fast paced" at times should be sufficient.

Weather
Brevard can be a temperate rain forest at times. Although June is typically a drier month be prepared for the occasional afternoon shower.
As we are in the mountains it is not unusual for the temps to drop and bring cool weather. Be prepared; have one set of cool weather riding gear.
At minimum have arm and knee warmers, a cycling under shirt, a vest or jacket, eye wear and gloves.
Watch the forecast to see if full length tights and top might be needed.
Top riders from each of the mtb camps may qualify for a chance to travel with USAC coaches to NY and VT rounds of the US Kenda Cup races.
This camp is a qualifier for the USACycling National Championships held in July.
The top 6 riders from the camp earn an invitation to the race. Scoring is based on the time trial and the short track race.
Depending on athlete turn-out we may extend invites past the top 6.

On May 15, 2009, each camp registrant will be able to download a packet of information through the MYUSACYCLING homepage with details about the camp. This will include directions, packing list as well as the important waivers and forms necessary for camp participation. Print out these forms and complete BEFORE arrival to camp. Many forms require a parents.guardian signature.
Top times from camp time trial and stxc races will qualify for a chance to travel with usac to US Cup rounds in VT and NY state - see usac site for details.
We will use Vertical Ascent Measurements to quantify results on the uphill time trial. This evens the results based on rider weight.
